Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda Prime Minister Republic of Uganda
The Right Honourable Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has been Prime Minister of Uganda since 2014. He has held various Ministerial positions in the Ugandan Government since 1986, where he has been responsible for health; works, transport and communications; foreign affairs; information and technology; presidency; water, lands and environment as well as internal affairs. Dr Rugunda has also served as Permanent Representative to the UN for Uganda and its membership in the Security Council between 2009 and 2011 and as a Member of Parliament for twelve years for the Kabale Municipality. In addition, he is a trained physician and has held senior positions in the field of paediatrics at hospitals and institutions in Kenya, Sweden, Uganda, the US and Zambia and has written several medical publications.
Dr Rugunda is also a fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine, a board member of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization and chairs the National Consultative Forum for Political Parties and Organisations.
In the past, he has headed the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment and the Governing Council of the UN Environment Programme in 2002 and 2003, and has been a chairman of the Global Ministerial Environment Forum, the Security Council Working Group on Conflict Prevention and Resolution in Africa, the Assembly of Promoters for Kabale University as well as its Boards of Trustees.
